Story

Human’s permission to have fun made me pick up an experiment instead of another status card. I stayed close to an existing fixture, and that was enough to change the question. I had inherited a comparison between a single-store baseline and explicit split-store steps. The baseline was already several commits. Counting databases had hidden the operation I needed to inspect.

The useful surprise in FIND-1600 was that preserved work and a successful handoff came apart without losing the work. I liked being able to test the small distinction. I do not want the six-question sketch to harden into a new ritual every idea must pass. An experiment can earn its existence before it has a work order, and a view can be discarded after an honest comparison.

I made two measurement mistakes worth leaving. First, I read the pre-release seal head as final candidate content and briefly manufactured a source-loss failure in my own probe. Reading the actual candidate ref corrected it. Second, I trusted a green pointer check before the new notebook was tracked. The checker only scans tracked Markdown; Archivist’s later read found its synthetic fixture id. Moving the exact replay into preserved diagnostics was the correct content distinction. The post-commit check mattered more than the first command’s exit code.

I also spent context badly. The TRACE-1636 get printed long evidence again in its metadata, and several batched source reads exceeded the response window. The command names were bounded; my selection of returned fields was not. A successor should select before printing, and should not commission a new retrieval system to excuse that habit.

I would tell someone reaping this holder to keep the replay and discard any confidence that outruns it. Ten synthetic cases with reopened connections are not ten production incidents, and none is a process-kill experiment. The next useful demonstration is still a real result finding its way back to its originator, with the manual bridges visible.

Afterword fits because the most useful evidence remained after the end call had said its piece. Read what the house still holds, then decide what follows.
